Located in the South West area of France, right bank of the Garonne, Chateau Labastide Orliac dates back to the 18th century when the domaine was among a select number of wine purveyors of the court of Louis XVI. The domaine has been continuously owned and managed by the Orliac family for over 7 generations. Today, sisters Catherine & Isabelle Orliac run the 23-acre estate carrying on traditional wine making practices and incorporating a judicial use of technology.

It is the prestige Cuvee of the domaine. Only exceptional vintages are released. The "1780" date that appears prominently on the Royal Heritage bottle refers to the decree of June 11th, 1780, by King Louis XVI, which granted Jean Orliac royal protection to continue his livelihood as a wine merchant.

The Brulhois region has been recognized when it obtained in 2011 its Appellation d'Origine Protegee under the name AOP Brulhois. The Merlot grapes are planted in deep clay soil that has the same structure as the one of Pomerol. The grapes come from a very small plot of 7 acres.

40% Merlot 10% Aboriou
20% Cabernet Franc
10% Cabernet Sauvignon
20% Tannat

The grapes are coming from the oldest vineyards (40 years old or more). All along the years, no pesticides or chemicals are used in the vineyards and work horses are favored over
tractors to limit the impact on the environment.

The wine shows a deep ruby/Crimson color. The bouquet presents a touch of leather and candied fruit while on the palate plum and cooked dark fruits are melting in mouth
thanks to the very ripe and silky tannins. We recommend to systematically decant this wine before serving for a more memorable experience.
