A deep and vibrant magenta in colour. On the nose this wine exhibits blood plum jam with a hint of mint and dark chocolate. This full bodied wine from the heartland of Langhorne Creek shows poetry of complex, gentle round fruit and french oak characters which are mingled with layers of dark forest fruits and mocha interlaced with subtle spice elements. A symmetry of very fine tannins and balanced acidity provide great structure and length. A very elegant, structural wine that will age well in the cellar. Vineyard: Metala Vineyards, Langhorne Creek, SA Variety: Shiraz 100% Harvest date: 1 March - 7 March 2012 Bottling date: 8 January 2014 Sourced from: 100% single estate, 3 individual plantings Baumé at harvest: 13.5 – 14.6 Alcohol: 14.5% alc/vol Titratable acidity: 6.6 g/L pH: 3.50 Oak Maturation:20 months in 60% new French oak puncheons and barriques, 40% 1-2yo barriques Closure: Screwcap & Cork Awards "Good crimson-purple; the aromas and flavours run across a complex array of red and black fruits, licorice, savoury tannins and good oak integration; the length and balance of the palate is its strongest point." 94pts - James Halliday "Deep garnet-purple in color and scented of spiced blackberries and black cherry compote with hints of cinnamon toast and pepper, the medium-bodied 2012 Brothers in Arms Shiraz is Estate grown and made using a high percentage of fruit from 100+ year old vines. On the palate it gives a solid core of expressive black fruit and baking spice flavors supported by medium levels of rounded tannins and just enough acid to hold through a finish with good persistence." 90pts - Robert Parker / The Wine Advocate "Concentrated licorice, dried mint and espresso notes complement the core of brooding dark berry flavors. Velvety tannins add some traction on the finish. Drink now through 2020." 91pts - Wine Spectator
