SUTRO is a limited production of premium terroir-driven wine located on Chalk Hill Road in the Alexander Valley, Sonoma County. Our wines are a true expression of this unique terroir. Our philosophy of minimal intervention winemaking combined with restrained use of new oak allows the quality of the grapes to shine through in the glass. Traditional blends paired with a Sonoma County site generate wines exhibiting a nuanced balance between elegance and power. Warnecke Ranch & Vineyard Grapes sourced from historic Warnecke Ranch are the primary ingredient for the reliably high quality of SUTRO wines. The beauty of the site and the superior wine grape growing are a reflection of Margo Warnecke Merck's dedication and hard work as Managing Partner for WR&V, a family owned and operated business since 1911. Alice Warnecke Sutro is the first of her family to produce vineyard designate wines from Warnecke Ranch under the label SUTRO. Please check the Warnecke Ranch website to learn more about its activities and sustainable winegrape growing practices certified by Lodi Rules since 2011 - California's original sustainable viticulture program. Cabernet Sauvignon Sourced from the original 45+ year old block situated at the foot of landmark Chalk Hill, the dry-farmed Cabernet Sauvignon vines with their deep roots and gnarled wood produce a scant 2 tons to the acre, lending remarkable concentration to the fruit.
