Appellation: Red Hen Vineyard, Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley Varietals: 100% Chardonnay, See's close Fermentation: Malolactic Fermentation Aging: 10 months in 50% new French Oak and 50% used French Oak Alcohol: 14.3% Winemaking - Blondie "Gone Wild" is single vineyard fruit that was hand harvested during the cool of night from the Red Hen Vineyard just south of our winery in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley. Named for its distinct wild yeast, it refers to the risky, but rewarding, approach of allowing nature to take its course starting the fermentation, rather than intervening by adding cultured wine yeast. Numerous strains of wild yeast are present in the winery and ride in from the vineyard on freshly picked grapes. Relying on them to convert the juice to wine means a slow, somewhat unpredictable fermentation, but each strain contributes its own unique, subtle nuances and, collectively, the various species lend the wine added layers of flavor, dimension and complexity. Tasting - This elegant 2015 vintage of our Blondie Gone Wild is rich with vibrant acidity and displays bright tropical and citrus fruits, honeysuckle, vanilla spice and hints of caramel.
