Deer Creek Vineyards was started in 1988 and is located in Southern Oregon nestled between the Coast Range and the Siskiyou mountains within the Illinois Valley (30 miles from the coast). The climate provides warm days, cooler nights and moderate marine influences. Moderate yields of 1.5/2.5 tons per acre, loamy, and well-drained soils with a wonderful growing season generally leads to abundant harvests with full flavor development at optimal sugar levels and balanced acidities, giving the wines a great balance of moderate alcohols. We farm sustainably, and we utilize wild/native yeasts to produce our wines. Our winemakers are Herb Quady & Brian Gruber of Barrel 42, (Quady North brand)

Vineyards: All of the fruit for this Chardonnay came from our Hillside Meditation Block Vineyard.

Winemaking: In 2015 we choose to pick our varieties at a mid-range brix levels. The fruit was sorted and pressed, cold settled and then racked to stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels (30% new oak) for natural fermentation. Individual lots were then aged, sur-lie in stainless steel tanks/barrels, for two months before being racked off the lees.

Tasting notes: This beautiful fruit-driven Chardonnay has just enough oak to develop a rich texture. The wine has aromas of pear, apple pie and a hint of butter. On the palate, it shows flavors of apple pie, baked pear, ginger, pineapple with a light buttery note. The wine starts off bright, develops nice weight in the mid-palate, and has a long, spicy finish.
