Deer Creek Vineyards was started in 1988 and is located in Southern Oregon nestled between the Coast Range and the Siskiyou mountains within the Illinois Valley (30 miles from the coast). The climate provides warm days, cooler nights and moderate marine influences. Moderate yields of 1.5/2.5 tons per acre, loamy, and well-drained soils with a wonderful growing season generally leads to abundant harvests with full flavor development at optimal sugar levels and balanced acidities, giving the wines a great balance of moderate alcohols. We farm sustainably, and we utilize wild/native yeasts to produce our wines. Our winemakers are Herb Quady & Brian Gruber of Barrel 42, (Quady North brand) Vineyards: All of the fruit came from our Long Shadow block on the south side of the vineyard. Winemaking: In 2016 we choose to pick our Pinot Gris fully ripened yet not as high in sugar. This wine was fermented cool in stainless steel to focus on a crisp, pure aromatic style white with bright acidity. Made in a nearly dry style, this wine retains 0.08% sugar which is enough sugar to balance the acidity and give a lift to the pure fruit core. After 2 months of lees contact, this wine was racked clean, filtered and bottled. Tasting notes: This bright Pinot gris has rich aromas of pear, white flowers and tropical undertones. On the palate, it has flavors of pear, dried ginger, citrus zest, and lime with an underlying note of stone fruit. It is bright and crisp with a creamy texture and a lingering finish of pears and dried ginger.
