Our estate vineyard is planted on steep hillsides in the cool, windswept portion of the Sonoma Coast known as the Petaluma Gap. The site is markedly affected by the moist marine air and winds that funnel through a gap in the coastal mountains. The resulting effect is naturally low yields and a long, cool growing season, which promotes small clusters and berries that can be picked at optimum ripeness. WINEMAKING Thirty Percent was picked for direct-to-press at 21.5 brix. The remaining wine was produced by saignee. 65% of the wine was stored in stainless steel for three months, with the balance stored in neutral barrels.
