Fermí Bohigas is a family-owned winery that has roots dating back to the 13th century. The estate is located in the town of Òdena in the River Anoia valley, about 45 minutes west of Barcelona. Their first commercial bottling took place in 1870 but it was not until 1978 that they bottled under the “Bohigas” label. Today, the family’s estate encompasses 750 acres (300 Ha) of which 270 (110Ha) are split between two separate properties, “Can Maciá” and “Can Batllevell”, both of which have their own cellars. All Bohigas wines are estate grown and farmed organically, with the estate being in the organic conversion stage. Their cavas are primarily produced with indigenous varieties: Xarel-lo, Macabeo and Parellada for whites and Trepat for red and rosé. The quality of their wines and the meticulous care and attention to the Cavas allow for extended lees aging during the second in-bottle fermentation and to use a low dosage levels (8g on the Reserva and 6g on the Rosat). The family tradition is continued by Jordi Casanovas Bohigas in the vineyard and his daughter Maria Casanovas as the winemaker. Varietals: Xarello, Macabeo, Parellada & Chardonnay– Practicing organic Aging: Second fermentation takes place in their cool cellars for 30 months before riddling and disgorgement. No Dosage.
