REGION: Casablanca Valley, Chile
VARIETALS: 100% Sauvignon Blanc
MATURATION: 6% for five months on fine lees
ANALYSIS: 13.3% alc/vol | TA: 8.30 g/L | pH: 3.10

VINEYARD:
The Sauvignon Blanc grapes come from Chilcas’ vineyards in the Casablanca Valley, located between Santiago and the country’s main port of Valparaíso. The valley’s maritime and diurnal temperature variation influences produce excellent conditions for Sauvignon Blanc that are reflected in the varietal’s intense aromas and fresh flavors. Average yields are four tons per acre.

WINEMAKING:
The grapes were hand-picked during the first week of April and immediately transported to the winery. 80% were de-stemmed and held in the press for 72 hours, the remainder were whole bunch pressed. The must was fermented in stainless steel tanks, initially at relatively warm temperatures which was then lowered a few days into fermentation. A small portion of the wine was aged on lees for 5 months with periodic lees stirring. The wine was lightly filtered prior to bottling.

TASTING NOTES:
The 2014 Chilcas Reserva Sauvignon Blanc is pale silvery-green in color. The intensely perfumed nose presents aromas of tropical fruit such as passionfruit and kiwi along with citrusy notes of grapefruit and lime. Dried fig and flinty, gunpowder notes provide some complexity to the fresh primary flavors. The palate is firm with fruit, citrusy flavors, tremendous nerve, and intense freshness.

CRITICAL ACCLAIM:
Not yet reviewed. 2013 vintage: 88 pts Vinous
